Week 3 Post 1 - Aesthetics, Design & Branding

After reviewing all the sites, I chose to discuss the following websites as they stood out in various ways:

https://jamilin.com

First, there is so much information on the page with so many font colors, it is extremely difficult to focus on any one item and it is not clear what this company considers the most important information on the page.  It seems that the information was added to the page without an overall concept. There is no contrast to help organize the page and the alignment is mixed, even within multiple sections.  Each page has a completely different design format and it is not apparent on how to return to the home page.  In addition, for some reason, multiple images do not load.

I do not think this site looks professional as the photos, type and layout does not looked planned or created to direct the visitor in a logical path.  It appears that the company may be disorganized and perhaps their offerings are not quality.

To improve upon this site, a well thought out style template can be created for all the pages to follow.  Selecting a few colors would also be more visually appealing.  This would result in a much-improved user experience and encourage visitors to want to return back to the site and share it with others.

http://gatesnfences.com

This site looks like a splash page with so much information on the home page.  The navigation on the left is so jam packed that one does not know where to focus.  There are various colors of links with a non-understandable reason.  It looks like a data dump and is most overwhelming.

I believe grouping similar information together with links can greatly reduce the clutter on this page and help the visitor to focus on main topics that they can explore when they are ready.

When one clicks on a link on the left, they are brought to a page with the credit cards flashing.  I have never seen that!  Perhaps an order now button would be more effective.  The pages are not coordinated and could be with a grid style with borders and photos within.  The grids can be different sizes, but the same colors and titles.  In addition, there is no heading on the pages so the visitor would not easily grasp what the page is about.  I would venture to say their SEO is non-existent as well.

This site does not look professional with the credit cards flashing and labels with two colors.  In addition, the footer suggests this site was last updated in 2008.  Perhaps this site should be scrapped.  It gives the impression that either the business is no longer in business or that they haven’t updated their product line in 12 years!  I would suggest that they build a new site.

https://www.apple.com

Apple shows a strong brand with such a clean site with consistent black and white.  The  use of contrast works well with splashes of color on products and lots of white space so whatever is in color draws the visitors’ eyes in.  The pages have a repetitive, consistent style with line drawing icons of the products in that category at the top.  The motion, for example, on the watch page makes it fun and engaging when the visitor is designing their own watch.

On the Mac page, the computers are just a crack open, with the screen in exciting colors, enticing the visitor to become engaged and learn more.  This whole presentation exudes that Apple is professional, organized and ready to engage with their prospective customers.

https://www.headhunterhairstyling.com

I really like the video on the home page of the headhunter hairstyling site.  It is so engaging; one almost feels like they are in the salon and watching a client get beautified!  The homepage teases the visitor to visit other pages and learn more.  The branding connotates no-nonsense experience, welcoming and with a bit of flare.

The branding is strong as shown by the pages which look very well planned.  The spacing and white space really work to easily explain the services and pricing.  The icons on the pages are fun and the hair care products on a slideshow are fun and it looks like thought went into planning the site.  The stylists page is very engaging and the use of repetition of photos (as with the photo gallery) with a clear layout gives the impression that the salon is organized and perhaps can infer that the stylists are experienced and on time.

Thanks to this class, now I am off to make some branding changes to my own website!

Week 1A:  Let's get blogging This is my first go at creating a blog and posting to it so that you will be interested in reading it and coming back for more information.  Therefore, let’s start at the beginning; choosing a theme to entice you.   Here are the reasons I chose the Notable theme:   1.      This theme is  notable  as an extension of my personality, primarily striving for organized minimalism.  I want to present you with information to quickly  grasp without clutter on your screen.  As a fellow achiever, I’d like to help you comfortably reach your goal of grasping all the information in one full swoop.     2.     This theme is  notable   for a purposeful format with one section of text with one photo.  You can chose to digest each morsel by reading the text or by looking a picture (quietly speaking a thousand words).   Once I learn how to format the photos with text, I plan on using clever photos with simplicity for focus rather than distraction.   3.     This theme is al
